One of the Better Rifts Books.
By A Customer
In this book you will find a host of new races, new combat
armor (of all types). Two types totally new weapons. Phase
weapons which can fire through any non-magic power armor.
And a totaly new type of rail gun based on gravity rather
than electromagnets (see rifts source book). Allso this
book includes a full set of skills and rules for space
travel. As if that were not enough it includes a new
catagory of psionics dealing with the new "phase" tech. With
this new type of psionics you can teleport fire bolts of
phase energy (which can pass through power armor!), and a
whole range of other things. All in all this is a good book,
if you are running the game, I will give you a word of
warning, putting this in your game will swing the power
level WAY UP if you don't keep track of what your doing!
Have Fun!

It is an excellent RPG book, buy it!
By Josh (jfeath@molalla.net)
I read it through and through four times, it is an excellent book, with colorful details, and storyline. Though it did lack content in certain areas, I found it to be very interesting with the new cultures and weapons. Though not for everyone, Phase World definately tickled my fancy.

'The Whiteman' is one of the most powerful and pervasive symbols in contemporary American Indian cultures. Portraits of 'the Whiteman': linguistic play and cultural symbols among the Western Apache investigates a complex form of joking in which Apaches stage carefully crafted imitations of Anglo-Americans and, by means of these characterizations, give audible voice and visible substance to their conceptions of this most pressing of social 'problems'. Keith Basso's essay, based on linguistic and ethnographic materials collected in Cibecue, a Western Apache community, provides interpretations of selected joking encounters to demonstrate how Apaches go about making sense of the behaviour of Anglo-Americans. This study draws on theory in symbolic anthropology, sociolinguistics, and the dramaturgical model of human communication developed by Erving Goffman. Although the assumptions and premises that shape these areas of inquiry are held by some to be quite disparate, this analysis shows them to be fully compatible and mutually complementary.

Review
'Portraits of 'the Whiteman' ... is an exceptional piece of work ... What it presents is something that is very different for an ethnographer to obtain; indeed, the material presented is unprecedented. The essay is well written, and it packs a wallop. It goes to the very heart of the difficulties in Anglo-American and Native American relations. It should be required reading for every Anglo-American whose work involves him with Native Americans. It will also be exceedingly useful as collateral reading in introductory courses in cultural anthropology.' Ward H. Goodenough

'Ethnographers are not the only ones who do ethnography and Portraits of 'the Whitemen' presents the most subtle evidence that this is so far for North American Indians. It is absolutely at the cutting edge of developments in mutual understanding, to say nothing of the fact that it is superb anthropology.' Alfonso Ortiz

From the Back Cover
This study draws on current theory in symbolic anthropology, sociolinguistics, and the dramaturgical model of human communication developed by Erving Goffman. Although the assumptions and premises that shape these areas of inquiry are held by some to be quite disparate, this analysis shows them to be fully compatible and mutually complementary.

humor and power
By Bob Newman
Unless you have a special interest in linguistics or Goffman's dramaturgic model of human communication, you may feel the idea of this book too specialized to engage your interest. If you aren't interested in anthropology, you probably won't be reading this review anyway. My suggestion to readers is---start from Chapter Two, read the rest, enjoy the author's cartoons, and don't forget the Appendix either. Then go back and read Chapter One. The book will make a lot more sense and you will know what the author is talking about.

The Apaches find the behavior of Anglo-Americans bizarre and often insulting. The "portraits" referred to in the title concern little dramatic skits put on spontaneously by one person to a) pull someone's leg and b) express commonly-held feelings about whites. Such skits or "portraits" can create animosity if the butt of the skit is not close to the performer. If close, then the proximity is expressed through the butt's toleration of the fun being poked at him (i.e. "he can say what he wants, but we're still friends"). Though Basso strangely does not touch on the subject, perhaps out of consideration for his hosts and friends among the Apaches, there is definitely a colonial relationship here. The oppressor/colonizer can speak or behave as he likes while the oppressed/colonized are powerless. Unable to push back when pushed, the Apaches (those who are in the subordinate position) resort, like many colonized peoples, to humor and mockery to even the score. Subaltern studies anyone ?

This is all well and good, but to me the value of this book lies elsewhere. I would say it provides an extremely accurate description of cultural contrasts. Due to the presentation of the "portraits" and to Basso's writing, you get a clear explanation of Apache ways or values in personal behavior and how they see whites due to that. A question arises as to whether the Apaches need to be culturally sensitive too, or only the whites, due to past history. No matter, the Apaches at least have to be aware of the differences while the whites can ignore them. The book can be used in a first year Anthropology course or for any course or lecture on cultural relativity, developing cultural sensitivity, how to study cultural contrasts, culture clash, etc. An excellent book for such a purpose.

Priorities in Teacher Education: The 7 Key Elements of Pre-Service Preparation, by Clare Kosnik, Clive Beck

Good teacher education not only enhances the understanding and skills of new teachers, but increases the likelihood of them staying in the profession. In Priorities in Teacher Education, Clare Kosnik and Clive Beck argue that teacher preparation should be given sharper focus, identifying seven priority areas:

  • program planning
  • pupil assessment
  • classroom organization and community
  • inclusive education
  • subject content and pedagogy
  • professional identity
  • a vision for teaching

Long-time teacher education instructors and researchers themselves, the authors identified these priorities through literature-based research and the findings of a three-year study following twenty-two graduates through their first years of teaching. Packed with examples and quotes about these experiences, the book is broken down into seven chapters, each focusing on one of the seven priorities and containing a case study of one teacher whose experiences embody the priority being discussed.

As the chapters progress, the authors increasingly demonstrate the interplay between the seven priorities, showing that none of them can be pursued in isolation, and building a comprehensive base of essential knowledge for beginning teachers.

Teacher educators will find Priorities in Teacher Education a key guide to pre-service preparation, while new and student teachers will benefit enormously from reading the ‘front line’ accounts of their contemporaries.

Fire and Bone!
By Cristabel
The Black Dragons, one of the more infamous loyalist chapters due to their mutations, falls under the scrutiny of the Ordos Malleus. Just one problem the Dragons face down in this book. David Annandale does a terrific job describing battles, from the mass assaults of cultist hordes, to the personal duels of astartes v astartes.

The plot took a bit to fully understand, mainly due to the fact the point of view of the reader changes rather rapidly and often. Things trundle on nicely with big battles and schemes ensuing when suddenly much plot must be told, and so the POV changes to several different characters within a page and half. However, overlooking this, the read was enjoyable once i was knew what to be ready for.

Using the Black Dragons as the chapter in question for this book was a wonderful descion as it sheds light on a chapter with known, obvious mutations that have not only survived where all others (Flame Falcons, Soul Drinkers, etc.) had failed but also flourished. In the Imperium any mutation is a death sentence, even among astartes, but the Black Dragons use their mutations to overcome any obstacles and use them as a source of faith, a gift from the God Emperor.

Not bad but not original
By JPS
Received on 15 February 2013 from Amazon

The death of Antagonis tells the story of the second company of Space Marines of the Black Dragons. These are called for help as the planet's population is infected by a plague that transforms its inhabitants into living dead. This starts the Wars of Lamentation which will pitch the Black Dragons and their supposed allies against Chaos possessed Space Marines lead by the heretic Cardinal Nessun.

While interesting and action-packed, the story is not exactly original, with the Black Dragons being warped by genetic malformations, attracting suspicion from the Inquisition and generally considered as outcasts by other Space Marine Chapters. Although I will try hard to avoid spoilers, a number of features pertaining to this chapter and its problems and tensions very much reminded me of Ben Counter's Soul Drinkers.

Some features are somewhat original, such as the ability of the heretic Cardinal to manipulate minds, or the Cardinal himself and the Swords of Epiphany, the renegade Chapter who are his Space Marine disciples and the Black Dragons' ancient enemies. Another interesting feature was the existence of deceptions and plots within plots, with nothing being quite what it seems to be. One last bit that I liked was the space ship engagements.

Unfortunately, I also had some problems. First, we never get to learn how and why the ex-Cardinal became a heretic and how and why a whole Chapter of Space Marines chose to follow him. Second, the clashes between the two Chapters opposing the deformed but loyal Black Dragons and the handsome, seraphic but evil Swords of Epiphany appeared a bit too one-sided for my taste, with the latter getting a bit too easily thrashed. Finally, I did not find the characters very "believable". Although not necessarily "bad" or cardboard characters, they mostly felt like stereotypes and did not quite come alive for me.

Accordingly, I would recommend this one to Warhammer 40K fans, although they probably do not need any recommendation from anyone and are likely to buy it anyway. Others may want to give this one a pass and save their money for the next one.

Excellent book that shows how the Space marines can be caring, if flawed, individuals. Black Dragons were a chapter i had heard little of, but this book filled out their fluff rather well and gave me a good feeling for them.

Computer Systems Organization and Architecture, by John D. Carpinelli

This book provides up-to-date coverage of fundamental concepts for the design of computers and their subsystems. It presents material with a serious but easy-to-understand writing style that makes it accessible to readers without sacrificing important topics. The book emphasizes a finite state machine approach to CPU design, which provides a strong background for reader understanding. It forms a solid basis for readers to draw upon as they study this material and in later engineering and computer science practice. The book also examines the design of computer systems, including such topics as memory hierarchies, input/output processing, interrupts, and direct memory access, as well as advanced architectural aspects of parallel processing. To make the material accessible to beginners, the author has included two running examples of increasing complexity: the Very Simple CPU, which contains four instruction sets and shows very simple CPU design; and the Relatively Simple CPU which contains 16 instruction sets and adds enough complexity to illustrate more advanced concepts. Each chapter features a real-world machine on which the discussed organization and architecture concepts are implemented. This book is designed to teach computer organization/architecture to engineers and computer scientists.

This book is a failure
By James Kornek
I was forced to buy this book for my Architecture class. I really regret wasting my money on it. In short, the book [stinks]. It assumes too many things. It does not do a very good job explaining some important pieces of information. For the most part, the student will spend the whole time trying to make sense out of what the author is saying. It is one of these "should've..could've" books!
If you are looking for an architecture book, I wouldn't recommend this one.

Plan to spend a lot of time looking at other references.
By A Customer
a = b, c, and d.
e = f, g, and h.
b > e while a < f.
ac < gh while fh < bd.
c can be diagrammed in this box if you use h.
g is shown in this truth table if you use a.
Part of what makes this text so difficult to understand is the author's inability to use consistent terms while trying to explain material. In the first chapter, a simple And gate is referred to as 'AND', 'x^y', 'x.y', 'xy', '()()', and 'and'. All true, but used interchangeably while trying to explain makes the concepts incredibly difficult to decipher, particularly when variations for representing other boolean concepts are added to the fray.
The best part of the book, as far as I can tell, is that the key terms are in bold so I know what to plug into Google to try and figure out what it is.

Understandable but complex - for a complex subject
By W. Hilger
I used this book for an undergrad Architecture course. I had a great teacher, and we only looked at certain sections in the book. There is an awful lot to cover in a single semester.

The book is written for students with very little formal electronics knowledge, but you do need to know some basic logic and hardware concepts. It is based on the i86 architecture, making generalizations where possible. If you have a strong background, or want to learn very detailed concepts - then there are better choices. Sometimes this book over-simplifies concepts to reach its intended audience.

I later found the book useful as a reference tool in a graduate architecture class. Especially the sections on memory - cache, virutal, pagefiles, etc.. Even though my grad class was on the MiPS architecture, the concepts are the same.

Overall, this was a decent text for an undergraduate course.

As other reviewers, (good and bad) have noted - when you are learning, you should always use additional references. Don't depend on this book alone to teach you.

Alias Hook: A Novel, by Lisa Jensen

"Every child knows how the story ends. The wicked pirate captain is flung overboard, caught in the jaws of the monster crocodile who drags him down to a watery grave. But it was not yet my time to die. It's my fate to be trapped here forever, in a nightmare of childhood fancy, with that infernal, eternal boy."

Meet Captain James Benjamin Hook, a witty, educated Restoration-era privateer cursed to play villain to a pack of malicious little boys in a pointless war that never ends. But everything changes when Stella Parrish, a forbidden grown woman, dreams her way to the Neverland in defiance of Pan's rules. From the glamour of the Fairy Revels, to the secret ceremonies of the First Tribes, to the mysterious underwater temple beneath the Mermaid Lagoon, the magical forces of the Neverland open up for Stella as they never have for Hook. And in the pirate captain himself, she begins to see someone far more complex than the storybook villain.

With Stella's knowledge of folk and fairy tales, she might be Hook's last chance for redemption and release if they can break his curse before Pan and his warrior boys hunt her down and drag Hook back to their neverending game. Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen is a beautifully and romantically written adult fairy tale.

From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—An inventive spin on J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Hook is reincarnated and fitted with a new crew each time he is defeated by Pan. He has been trapped in Neverland for 200 years and wishes for nothing more than a true death. But something else is afoot. He knows that his crews are made up of old Lost Boys, wandering back to Neverland as adults, but never has a "Wendy" returned until Stella makes her appearance. After some initial bafflement and bluster, Hook and Stella fall in love, and together they attempt to unravel the mystery of the curse that has kept Hook prey to Pan for so many years. Jensen's attempts at mythology here, especially the specifics of the curse, are a bit convoluted, but it doesn't much matter—the heart of this highly affecting novel is the intertwined stories of the redemption of a seemingly irredeemable man, and the powerful love story of Hook and Stella. Jensen's take on the importance of childhood and Neverland is surprisingly consonant with Barrie's. Teen fans of the original play and novel, the Disney film, or any other variant since should highly enjoy this unique offering.—Mark Flowers, John F. Kennedy Library, Vallejo, CA

Review

“A rich and darkly humorous tale of a man trapped in a child's nightmare. A delicious and thought-provoking read.” ―Laurie King, New York Times bestselling author of The Bones of Paris

“Jensen's wonderful imagination and devotion to history and myth allow the reader to fly with her through this outstanding adventure - no fairy dust required.” ―Publishers Weekly

“A marvellous book. A plot to keep you guessing, and a character to fall in love with. Written with verve and warmth, Alias Hook will challenge what you thought you knew about Neverland, and have you cheering for an unlikely but irresistible hero.” ―Paula Brackston, New York Times bestselling author of The Midnight Witch

“It's a really beautifully written novel about Captain Hook. It tells that story from his perspective. He's stuck in this childhood world where Peter Pan rules everything until an adult woman finally falls into Neverland. It's an unusual premise. I love it.” ―Eloisa James, author of Three Weeks with Lady X

“Captain Hook is as proud and lonely as Lucifer--though, being a pirate, he's loads more fun--while the impious Peter Pan is as cruel as an unleashed child can be. Alias Hook is pure joy.” ―Broos Campbell, author of Peter Wicked

“A captivating blend of fantasy, adventure, and historical fiction, Alias Hook is a fresh, utterly convincing reinterpretation of the Peter Pan story. Lisa Jensen takes a classic villain and transforms him into someone we care about and root for all the way to the emotionally stirring end. You will never look at Captain Hook the same way again!” ―Elizabeth Blackwell, author of While Beauty Slept

“Both a cracking adventure and a chance to witness that annoying little prig Peter Pan get a good kicking! Highly recommended.” ―C.C. Humphreys, author of Vlad – The Last Confession

“Scintillating description and deep characterization make Jensen's Neverland a psychologically intriguing place to visit. Jensen offers a humanized take on Captain Hook that will be sure to entertain fans of the fairy tale-retelling genre.” ―Library Journal

What if what we think is true is fiction?
By Mary Gramlich
We have all read the book, seen the movies, watched the plays and singularly came to one conclusion, Captain Hook was evil and Peter Pan was the hero. But what if there is a back story about the real man Captain James Benjamin Hookbridge, known as the infamous pirate Hook? The real reason that Hook acts as he did was due to being trapped by fate and forced to live out the whim of a child that could not grow into a man.

Captain Hook was a pirate and did more than his fair share of evil deeds but his getting caught on Neverland was an accident he cannot be released from. His ship has been anchored to a spot for centuries and while many times Hook has been killed at the hands of Peter Pan he has always risen from the dead. Wanting the game that Pan is playing to end and his life to move on from his own personal purgatory Hook fails to understand what can release him, until Stella appears and may be the rescue Hook requires. Stella wanted to find Neverland but Pan was the master of all and only those women he choose to come could act as the mother to the lost boys. Pan was a dictator of the lands and allowing Stella to set foot inside his domain was not going to happen, yet it did and that is what sets off a new exchange of explosions between Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

What Stella opens in Hook is the heart he long ago felt stopped beating. She shows him how to deal with his duties but also how to stop the games that Peter Pan wants to play to control Hook and his men. What if treating Pan like the spoiled child he was and not engage him as Hook has done in the past; what if Hook takes the upper hand and establish that he is not a victim but the victor in this cat and mouse game; what if is all Hook can think? Using every friend and foe he can find Hook devises a plan to seek freedom from Neverland, defeat Pan, and finally after centuries of fighting off demons he no longer cares about achieve freedom and love.

Everyone has a back story, it is the writer when pen is put to paper that can release the words that make it believable and have readers craving every word. Lisa Jensen has shown just those attributes in this thrilling, enticing, and creative story

Do I recommend it? Absobloodylutely!
By Kristina
I was only accompanying a friend at the book store when I saw this on the shelves, and I knew I had to have it. As a lover of Barrie's Peter Pan, I felt the most compassion for two characters: poor Wendy who wanted adventure, only to end up playing a never ending game of House, and Captain Hook with his melancholy eyes, inferior companions, and loneliness at night. But we know Wendy gets her happy ending.
With this novel, I was more than sated. Lisa Jensen does justice to the "redskins," breathes life into those insipid mermaids, adds a whole new dimension to the fairies, and best of all, we get inside the mind of the Captain.

Alias Hook is a proper fairy tale. It's got adventure, sword fighting, magic, and a hero you root for. He's an unlikely hero, yes, and he never thinks of himself as one, but the reader knows better. Like all good fairy tales it's got romance. I was suspicious of how I would feel about Stella Parrish, but watching her story unfold, as well as their romance (perfectly and realistically paced), I loved her fiercely. These are two characters you love both together as a couple, and separately as individuals. She is no Xena, so don't expect that, but the lady has "got salt," and she's got all the wit James Hookbridge needs in a partner. Their lives are intertwined. Their bond, their creative swearing, it's all very natural.

I was delighted to read about the "truth" of the mermaids, and the fairies too. There is magic, but there is also culture, something lacking in children's tales. And here, I must note as well how pleased I am at the age of these two main characters. They are not twenty something, but aged appropriately so that they have lived, really lived, and you love them all the more for their broken bits, their darkness, their ugly. It's a fairy tale for adults, and that's something the world needs more of.

I spent much of the book wowed by the beautiful prose, riveted, and hungry for that creepy Pan to get what he deserved. The way I turned out to feel compassion for the boy was just so right, so human. That's what Alias Hook is. It is a novel that is raw and real, a fairy tale which is really about life, about hope, and love, and choices. A story about growing up, and second chances.
It is a story about redemption.
And like all great stories, you give a hearty cheer for the heroes in the end.

If you really love books, you will understand how after reading the last words I closed the book and held it to my chest.

Gorgeous, masterful reimagining of Captain Hook
By Rachel @ Paper Cuts blog
Alias Hook is gorgeous, and largely, it's masterful, an imaginative and stirring reimagining of one of children's literature's most famous villains. Every aspect of the Neverland is lovingly crafted and taken to a deeper level while also retaining the magic of the original story. It's a feat of retelling prowess, blurring the lines between hero and villain, making neither who we thought they were but also never fully reversing the roles.

The famed Captain Hook has been trapped in the Neverland for centuries. While a paradise at first, it has become his purgatory to fight Peter Pan time and time again, never able to win but also never able fully to lose, to die. He has "died" at Pan's hand countless times, only to live on. All he seeks is death, an end to the drudgery of a meaningless life of fighting, knowing he can't win, and watching his crew die. This is the Hook we meet at the beginning of Alias Hook, desperate for an escape but hopeless that one will come. When Stella Parrish, an impossible grown woman in the Neverland, drops in, it's through her that he realizes a reason to live on, a reason to cherish the Neverland that has served as his prison, and a reason to fight for his escape. His journey is a startlingly lovely one, full of regret and sorrow, but also of the joy of love.

The Neverland is just as magical in a novel written for adults as it would be to the child's eye. A world built around the whim of Pan, it is conducive to his needs and odd dislikes, but it's also a paradise to the innocents who come to escape and to learn why they must grow up. But the Neverland hides secrets from Hook, and it hides even more secrets about Pan, unexpected but that also deepen him as a character.

As a reader, it's easy to get swept up in Alias Hook and forget imperfections. For me, all that detracted was that I was unable to connect to Stella and her relationship with Hook. I'm unsure why that was, but I never felt for her the way I felt so intimately connected to Hook. I saw how their relationship changed him and enjoyed the change, but the relationship itself never stirred much within me. This didn't much take away from Hook's story itself, but I wished I had a better idea of Stella so I could see his transformation more completely.

Alias Hook paints a new, nuanced, and flawed portrait of Captain Hook that takes the reader on a journey of epic proportions, though time and space and into the lands of the fairies and mermaids. A story of the transformative power of love, Alias Hook is gorgeously written and beautifully romantic.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Vaccination Voodoo: What YOU Don't Know About Vaccines, by Catherine J Frompovich

Vaccination Voodoo uses peer reviewed journal studies, U.S. health agencies information, and other documentation to disclose what's in vaccines that consumers, unfortunately, do not know. Vaccine ingredients can include such components as Thimerosal, which is 49.6% ethylmercury, aluminum, 2-Phenoxyethanol, formaldehyde/Formalin, polysorbate 80, phenol, antibiotics, gluteraldehyde, MSG, sodium borate, plus a 'shopping list' of other neurotoxic chemicals, along with vaccine production media that includes anything from monkey kidney and other animal tissues to genetically engineered insect virus to diploid cells, which are aborted human fetal tissue. Surely, vaccines are not just an antigen and saline water, as many health professionals would have you believe. The book discusses adverse effects from vaccines both in trials, and in foreign countries where vaccination campaigns are being closed down by governments due to so many adverse effects from vaccines--something the U.S. media doesn't report. Vaccination 'politics' and how they affect everyone from the newborn infant to senior citizen become apparent with the author's candid discussion of what her research of vaccines since the 1980s has uncovered. Many of the myths revolving around vaccines and vaccinations are exposed for what they truly are, public relations and media spin. Vaccination Voodoo, What YOU Don't Know About Vaccines will open readers' eyes to information they should know and utilize as part of being informed healthcare consumers.

We Should be Improving Our Lot Shouldn't We ?
By G ORCHARD
As the years go by I have become more and more suspicious of vaccines. Back in the 50s when I was growing up we had few medications and even fewer needs for them. A disinfectant (Dettol or Iodine), a cover (Elastoplast) and a pain killer (Asprin). After 67 years most of the childhood diseases seem to have passed me by. It seems that my immune system must be intact. Not so my heavily vaccinated grandchildren who at the age of 5 or 6 can name multiple antibiotics and seem to be forever a little under the weather. Too much of the book is too close to the truth within modern society for anyone to remain comfortable when reading it. There is definitely something amiss when the experts nearly blow a valve when insisting that kids and older folk are vaccinated or fluoride is put in our drinking water. Whatever happened to homo sapiens ability to think critically ?
Thank you Catherine for an excellent read.

A Dangerous Book - for Vaccine Makers
By W.G. Whitney
I hesitated to buy this book because of the title and cover. I thought it would be full of wild hype like some anti-vaccine books. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's an amazing, breakthrough book. It's chock full of facts, references, links and quotations from the vaccine makers, government officials, doctors and parents. In their unguarded moments, doctors say things that could have the rest of us facing a judge and jury.

The facts make this book heavy reading. It's shocking to learn what we are never told - what's really in the vaccines, why certain additives were put there, what they actually do to the human immune system and baby's brains and what we can do about it. And most disturbing of all is that the scientists in industry and government (FDA/CDC) have known these facts for a long, long time but covered them up. The things that I learned that were most amazing and unreal were:

* the list of additives and accidental contents is incredible - formadehyde, SV40 monkey virus, pork virus (PCV), foreign animal cells from growth media (monkey, aborted human cells, mouse brain, etc), live virus, foreign DNA, antibiotics, peanut and shark oil and cancer virus, bacteria, bird virus and even mad cow disease possible
* The US Congress gave vaccine makers a get out of jail free card which encourages the explosive growth in new vaccines and a US Vaccine Court awards damages to (some) parents whose children are hurt, with gag orders attached.
* The FDA has approved insect growth media, like caterpillars, to grow the vaccines in.
* There never has been a double blind placebo controlled trial for vaccines. Instead of a real placebo, they test against other vaccines.
* A law for comparing Vaccinated and Unvaccinated populations was taken to the US House by Carolyn Malloney (D-NY) in 2007 but wasn't voted on. Neither was the Healthcare Rights Amendment voted on (adding to the Constitution).
* Doctors have known for years that the Gardasil HPV vaccine given to young girls can kill or turn its victims into health cripples.
* The major diseases were in steep decline towards zero due to better housing, sanitation, food, etc. before vaccines were brought in. Then the doctors claimed that they wiped out the diseases.
* At the "Simpsonwood" meeting in 2000 made public by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 52 government, vaccine and health care experts discussed a study which clearly showed the link between vaccinated kids and the deteriorating health of children. Then they decided how to cover the story up and bury it.
* The vaccine makers have plans for 300 new vaccines and government has plans for an RFID microchip to be implanted in the palm of the hand to "track" citizens.

The author has an odd style of writing in the third person but we could cut her some slack - maybe she thinks it's arrogant to say "I did this" and "I believe that". She does ramble however and does repeat things. This could be improved in her next edition by stating at the opening of each chapter what it's about, then remove repetition and re-group subjects together. Avoid jumping to completely different topics on every other page! Her writing style is for a graduate level of audience, using dense medical terminology. She needs to add the definition behind each medical term or place a footnote. For example: neurotoxins [chemicals harmful to the nervous system] An index of vaccine terms at the back of the book would be great. (adjuvants, excipients, surfactants, etc.)

Bottom line: a valuable, helpful book.

Read this before you submit to vaccines
By Jane Remington
Catherine has hit this ball out of the park! Vaccination Voodoo is the best read on the market today which informs readers as to what exactly is in vaccines and why these ingredients are toxic and destructive to our immune systems. God gave us immune systems to keep us healthy. Then He placed us in a Garden and meant for us to feed ourselves and heal our diseases with the nourishing food found in it. Vaccines actually by-pass our immune systems and make us weaker and sicker in both the short run and the long run. Vaccination Voodoo explains how and why this happens.

Thank you Catherine for your excellent book. If only it were required reading in medical schools!

Good Continuation To The Series
By Some Average Guy
Bottom line is this book is probably slightly better than average compared to the series as a whole.

The good:
X New race encounters/tactics/relationships
X Same great space battles, but having to use some new tricks
X Dealing with the complications of aging fleet ships
X Some interesting events dealing with Syndics
X Nice growth of some 2nd-tier characters
X Less rehash/recap of what's in previous books (I guess the author realizes people buying this book will have almost certainly read one of the previous ones.)
X Less emphasis on the love/jealousy triangle between Geary, Diplomat Rione, and the Dauntless Captain
X Author picked a nice stopping point (not a terrible cliffhanger)

The bad:
X How many times does the main character have to say "I'm not Black Jack"? Seriously, we get it already. By now it's well into the hundreds.
X Same corny dialog. Probably a bit more than usual.
X A lot of characters remain very 2-dimensional / stereotype
X $13.00 for the kindle version. 'nuff said.
X At the end the author plugs another book "The Lost Stars: Tarnished Knight". It's basically part of the same timeline told from Syndic perspective. I think we need to focus on finishing the main story before we start milking it via side shows.

One last thought to my fellow readers hooked on stories like this: I recently stumbled across another series identical in flavor but actually a bit more intense: "Aurora: CV-01 (The Frontiers Saga)" is the first in the series. Short & cheap little books, but they are high-impact. Really surprised me. Might help with your craving for more until the next book in this series comes out.

Very entertaining addition
By Kindle Customer
Characterization has often been in short supply in this series as can be expected with so many ship captains being cycled through, but I found this latest effort by Mr. Hemry to finally be hitting his stride. I am beginning to prefer this series to that on David Weber's Honor Harrington saga because Mr. Hemry's improving story-telling skills and exciting story line. Also, Jack is not a superman, just a guy trying to keep his people safe and knowing that some will die no matter how good a job he does.

SPOILERS:
For example, Duellos, who as one of Black Jack's key advisors was little more than a stereotype, was revealed to be an actual person with real emotions and concerns. Jane Geary, who in the last few books has been a bit of a whiner ("Oh, woe is me, trying to live up to the family name"), finally had that breakthrough moment with Jack. Great. About time. Also, we get to see that Rionne is not a complete witch, and why she has been acting so testy in the last two books.
END SPOILERS

Oh, yes, and there are aliens. And fighting. And new friends made and old enemies confronted. I love this series and I hope we will continue to see more of the Lost Fleet in the months to come. I am also looking forward to reading the Tarnished Knight series as well. If you like epic space opera, then this is the series for you, but do not start here. The plot is way too convoluted unless you read the series in order, but it is worth the effort.

Price

I do not understand why you want us to pay more for the electronic version $12.99 which cost practically nothing, then you do for the papperback version $7.99 or even the hardcover $15 and its a shame because i really enjoy this series but refuse to pay that price.
