WORTH EVERY CENT

This was my first book by this author and I loved it. May/ December is one of my favourite genres. This one was very tastefully done. Thanks for the great read Sassie and I'll look forward to more from you.

Save a horse, ride a cowboy (love that song *winks*)

First of all the book is a quick read. I got it this morning and 3hrs later I'm done. Now, this is not to say the book is lacking. Oh no, far from it. the premise is great (brother of adopted father falls for 'niece'). The heroine has had a thing for her 'uncle' for years. The sex is hot, the angst is great. Other than a couple of editing issues (nothing major, just a wrong tensed word here and there / editing is done by humans after all and can't be perfect) the book is spot on fantastic.

A question to the author? Will others in the book get their HEA?

Passion everywhere.

I liked very much this story. It has cowboys, a very smart young lady, a touch of forbidden, and a lot of passion.

Axton and Tia have a complicated platonic relationship until a weekend in a hotel room changes everything. They both give in to their desire and the temperature goes from 60 to 120 in less time it took for them to be naked. Their passion and devotion held me captive until the last word. Awesome book, great job Sassie....!! Can't wait to read more about this family specially about a certain twin that shares with certain buddy of his...!!

Goodbye, Columbus features Neil Klugman, a young man from Newark living with his aunt, and Brenda Patimkin, an archetypal Jewish American Princess, whose summer romance illustrates the tension between old world values and the new suburb-based culture. Provocative and entertaining, the other stories tell of likable characters, mostly men, who embrace their Jewishness yet must face conflicts in family and community. Goodbye, Columbus is a coming of age story, a summer romance between a poor boy and a wealthy girl. Many themes that were to show up in much more detail in his later works are presented in embryonic form in this novella, his first major work. Being Jewish in America, sex, class boundaries, the American Way: All Roth subjects, all handled with intelligence and compassion.

Neil is the typical poor Jewish boy enamoured with Brenda, the classy, self-assured, rich girl. He shows a rare spark of confidence when he calls her for a date after first meeting her at a swimming pool, when she accepts and they meet, he finds that he really doesn't know what to do from there. But, they bumble through the beginnings of a relationship, mutually attracted physically, diametrically opposed socially. Neil has a few 'poor' ideas and thoughts that Brenda cannot relate to, while she accepts such luxuries as a maid or 'getting her nose fixed' with such ease and complacency that we - and Neil - are amazed. Over the summer, their relationship develops further, with the typical ups and downs of love colouring the journey.

Neil is the 'I' character of the story, and it is through his point of view that we watch the story unfold. However, even though the story is in first person, there is never much of his personality revealed through contemplative thought or reflection. Instead, we learn who he is from the way he interacts with Brenda and others, and from the way he studies the events in which he is involved. By the end of the novella, we (mostly) understand his motives and ideas, and though, admittedly, it is a little difficult to imagine Neil existing outside the scope of the novel, that actually plays into the theme of the story. Neil is searching for meaning, for a reason to keep on existing, and he considers that in Brenda, he has found it. Whether this is true or not becomes a large focus in the novel, particularly when, later on, she repeatedly reveals to him that she is in fact her own person, with her own ideas, and that sometimes they won't mesh with his.

Brenda, on the other hand, remains a complete mystery to both the reader and Neil. Because we are never allowed to see her thoughts, and because her and Neil have such a different social background, she is someone who we try to understand, but inevitably fail. At times, Neil will say or do something and she will become upset, or tender, or both, and Neil will be so confused that he simply accepts. This can be frustrating for the reader, because Brenda is an appealing character, and it would be nice for him to have the gumption to search deeper within her for meaning and thought, but unfortunately he rarely does. Interestingly, this doesn't come off so much as a failing on Roth's part as an author, but Neil's as a character.

As stated above, the typical themes and ideas that Roth was to develop more fully in his later works are present here. There is the same easy insight into the mundane reality of life, and the same simple joy in, say, eating a piece of fruit or swimming in a pool. Goodbye, Columbus is a story that focuses on one single idea, that being the summer romance between two people that could not have a relationship in any other situation, and it explores it in a remarkably fulfilling way. Admittedly, the very Jewish quality of the writing and ideas may not be as identifiable for a non-Jewish person, but speaking as a man of no faith, I didn't find it to be all that much of a problem. Also, the casual racism towards African-Americans may be off-putting, but again, it didn't upset the flow of the novel.

To conclude, what Roth has done here is to introduce himself as an author, and for a twenty-six year old, it is an impressive introduction. Having read other works of his, I would recommend it as a good starting point. If you like Goodbye, Columbus - and I am quite certain everyone would - then you will love his later works. If not, not. And at only 140 pages, it is worth everyone's time to check out.

Useful information.

Very detailed information about what is involved with private labeling and selling on Amazon using fba. It is a how-to book that truly delivers. It's well-written and an easy read, but packed full of information. This would be a good book for someone who is considering going into private labeling. It is also a good book for someone who is already in the marketplace and wants to ramp up.

I've listened to the author's podcasts and workshop. This book goes over a lot of that same material, which is why I like it. It is easy to refer to the section of the book to look up what I need to know at a particular phase. There is a list of Resources and a Glossary -- both helpful.

This book was edited well. The formatting is nice. It flows smoothly without errors in the "cut and paste" (which I've seen in several other Kindle books). The grammar and spelling work.

This is a book that I will recommend to my friends who are interested in selling private label products on Amazon. It's an edifying book.

Awesome! I've gotten a lot of compliments and requests for the pattern!

I've looked for a hooked cape/cloak pattern for years. I was beginning to think I would have to take a stab at trying to design my own. Most of the patterns I did find were knitting patterns and I prefer to crochet. Finished the cape in a week or so and wore it out and got lots of compliments and a couple of requests for the pattern. It's warm without being too hot or heavy and will be great with a dress in the winter!

Bama is one of the first Dalit women writers to be widely recognized and translated. Her writings include an autobiography, Karukku (1992), a novel, Sangati (1994; translated into English by Lakshmi Holmstr�m, OUP 2005), and a collection of short stories, Kisumbukaaran (1996).

OH, DADDA!

When the film of Joe Orton's ENTERTAINING MR SLOANE opened in Manhattan (at what is now the Chapel of Faith, Hope & Charity) Andy Warhol went & declared it the most decadent thing he had ever seen. Poor Andy. He was more familiar with cookie jars than he was with the written word. Orton's take on middle-class morality isn't that much different from that of Shaw's Alfred Doolittle's except Doolittle talks about it & Orton gives us the experience. The way the Pope & Cardinals are handling the current sex scandal within the Roman Catholic Church would be right at home here. Orton's rude, funny lines often come at you from angles you didn't know were there. Kath, a middle-aged woman is showing Mr Sloane a room he can rent in the house she shares with her father (the Dadda) which is in the middle of a garbage dump. (In the movie this was changed to a cemetery which is, I think, a mistake.) Within a few minutes she's got the young man's trousers off & prone on a sofa. Enter her brother Ed who first wants the young man out but after giving him the once over offers him a job. The fourth member of the cast is the father who seems to remember something about the young man which isn't so nice. What Orton does with this central situation is always hilarious but also grounded in the experiences of his middle-class upbringing. His dialogue is at its best when the characters' words have nothing to do with the subject at hand. The advantage of reading scripts like this is that as you are unlikely to see a really satisfactory production of the play, in reading it you are only as limited as your imagination. Orton's work has the WILDE EFFECT. You never know when a line will suddenly pop into your mind & leave you helpless from laughter.

Joe Orton Strikes again...

Although it is now advised that you buy this book as part of Joe's collection of plays, this in it's self is still a wonderful addition to anyone's collection. From the hilarious old man Kemp who knows more than he is given credit for, to the perverse yet strangely intriguing Kath, Mr Sloane's "Mama" and lover. As is expected with any Joe Orton play this breaks all conventional boudaries yet still manages to be riveting entertainment. Like I say, get the collection to truly appreciate this under-rated genius, but you will not be dissappointed when you have bought, read, re-read and read again this truly unique play.

His Astonishing Grace & Astounding Love

I read The Day I Met Jesus eagerly - loving the idea of reading about what we know and what could have happened in the lives of these women and Jesus. And then it happened. On the first page. The same sense of His presence enveloped me the way it did on the day I met Him myself. It was all there - the tender acceptance, the all-knowing gentle response to my sin, and the all encompassing love for them and for me. For all of us.

The Day I Met Jesus is a unique mix of fiction, historical fact, and brief, but deep Bible study. The combination drew me deeper into the Word and I can't explain it, but I felt like I was there - not just with them. . .but with them and Him. Jesus. It felt personal because it is. Because Jesus is.

This book is a gift from God through the authors to readers. About the One who is, and was, and is to come. And about His astonishing grace and astounding love for the weary, the wounded, the seeking, and the found.

Everyone should read this beautiful book!

This book is a life changing compilation of stories from 5 women in the Bible. However, the stories are not what you think. When we read the account in the Scriptures, we get a small snapshot of the story. But what led that women to that point in time when she met Jesus and her life was drastically, surprisingly, changed? In this book, Mary DeMuth skillfully (and beautifully) crafted THAT story. Written with knowledge of the times then, and what we know now about women who end up in similar situations, the backstory is created in such a way that you will never read the stories the same again. Your compassion for these women will be activated and they will be come quite real to you. After each story is the actual Biblical account, the Scriptures that tell what we know is true, and then Frank Viola writes the rest of each chapter with the in-depth look of the passage so we get a better understanding of what the Scripture is telling us, and he brings out the practical applications for each of us. You will not regret adding this book to your library!

About the Author
David Macaulay is an award-winning author and illustrator whose books have sold millions of copies in the United States alone, and his work has been translated into a dozen languages. Sadly, a little dated for modern kids

I loved this book as a kid and was looking forward to sharing it with my kids. Unfortunately, I think it's a little dated and so the "joke" did not resonate as well. I'd recommend other books from Macaulay, instead. I wish he did an update!

I first read this as a child ever since, I've always been just a tad skeptical of archaeology. I try to respect the science and the research, but there is always a part of me going, "Are you sure it isn't just a bathroom?" Great book, lovely illustrations, and a premise that will quite literally stay with you for years.
